From Long-Form to Short-Form: A Guide on AI-Driven Content Repurposing

SuperMarketers, how ya been?

I recently just launched my new podcast, called SuperMarketers, interviewing marketers on how they use AI in their day to day work. I want this to be actionable, so that you get to know strategies and ideas on how you can implement AI.

I did a podcast before, on eCommerce marketing called Cart Overflow. I stopped after we sold the business. It was an investment of time and energy, but I loved meeting new people through it and learning in the conversations.

This time around though, I’m going to use AI to improve the efficiency of getting the episodes ready to publish.

This post I’ll share how I’m doing that. The ideas here are applicable even if you don’t have a podcast….you can apply this to any long form content you have, or even taking another article or video that you didn’t write, and repurpose with some of these ideas.

Let’s get into it.

💡 Strategy: AI-Driven Content Amplification

The strategy here is simple: use AI to understand the gist of the long form content (in my case, the podcast), and then create different assets from it.

In the “olden days” of 2022, I’d read through the transcript of the episode, and do this manually. Time-consuming, manual, and something I dreaded and procrastinated.

Now, AI gets it done in seconds.

Here’s how:

  1. After I record (using Streamyard), and add to my editing software (Descript), I get a full written transcript in Descript.

  2. Copy the transcript and paste in Claude.ai. Claude is preferable to ChatGPT here because it can take in 100k tokens, 3x what ChatGPT can do.

  3. Use Claude to draft your content.

Here are some examples 👇️

🔍 Use Case: Repurpose & Distribute Your Content

Once you have the transcript added to Claude, it’s the jumping off point for whatever you’d need to do with your content.

But ultimately, it’s the foundation for creating content in a sustainable ways, because it helps with efficiency and consistency.

When I was doing the post-production stuff manually, it was a big investment in time—to go through the episode to pull quotes, write the summary and description, the social posts to promote, the short form video content, and more.

Some use cases for breaking a long form piece of content into smaller (written, audio, video) could be:

1. Identify Short Form Content: Create short, engaging snippets or highlights from long-form content, which can be shared on social media or used as teasers to entice listeners.

2. Repurpose Content: Once you have the written transcript in Claude, you can generate transcripts of the podcast, create a long form blog post, or just pull short quotes or social media posts. This helps you get more mileage from the initial content (a fun conversation that just happens to have been recorded and transcribed!).

3. Title & Description Generation: Use AI to draft titles and descriptions, which you’ll need for your podcast or YouTube video. Or if it’s a post, then use AI for the meta description, URL Slug, and promotional social media posts.

4. Time-Stamped Summaries: Creating concise, time-stamped summaries of podcasts or long-form content to provide quick overviews to the audience. I always appreciate a podcast that has time stamps and highlights of the convo.

🤖 Prompt: Transform Long-Form Content into Engaging Short-Form Pieces

After you’ve uploaded your long form content into Claude, start prompting it for the different assets you may need.

Here’s a high level template, and then of course customize to your output, your voice, and use your examples.

The general prompt:

“You are an expert copywriter, with experience in direct response marketing and capturing attention with words. Your task is to take this long form transcript on [add the topic and additional context].

Your task is to extract the essence of this discourse and repurpose it into various engaging short-form content pieces that can capture the attention of a broader audience and drive traffic to the full webinar recording.

🔬Expand: Get More Content From The Transcript

Once Claude has the full transcript, get more mileage and simplify the distribution process by using AI to draft the other content that you need.

Some prompt ideas here 😃

Headline Creation:

Craft a compelling headline that encapsulates the core theme of [insert your topic]. Aim for a balance of intrigue and informativeness to entice readers while conveying the essence of the discussion.

Summary:

Write a concise yet informative summary (150-200 words) that encapsulates the key discussions, notable expert insights, and key takeaways made during the conversation. Ensure clarity and coherence while maintaining a professional tone.

Social Media Post:

Draft a catchy social media post for platforms like Twitter and LinkedIn to promote the summary and the full episode. Focus on benefits of listening, include lessons and takeaways, and write in a simple tone. Ensure the post incites curiosity and engagement.

Time-Stamped Highlights:

Identify and list time-stamped highlights of key discussions, notable quotes, and pivotal moments from the episode. Include the speaker's name next to their quotes or points. Aim for 5-10 highlights that represent a wide spectrum of the discussion.

Blog Post Title and Outline:

Create a captivating title and a basic outline for a blog post that delves deeper into one of the topics discussed during the episode. In the outline, include an introduction, key points to cover with subheadings, and a conclusion. Target the keyword [insert target keyword]

Newsletter Blurbs:

Write two different short blurbs (50-60 words each) promoting the episode and the blog post, to be included in the upcoming newsletter. Ensure the blurbs are enticing, clear, and provide a call to action encouraging readers to delve into the full episode and the blog post.

📖 Resources:

I did a video walk through of how I do this, you can check it out here.

I guess I wouldn’t be following through on this post if I didn’t include a link to the actual podcast 😃

Just a few episodes in, but lots more to come, especially with AI making the post-production process far easier!

Until next week, Stay Super, Marketers.
