👩🎨 How To Simplify And Level Up Your Design Process with ChatGPT and Canva
Elevate your visuals with our step-by-step guide. It's design made simple and effective!
✋ Happy Friday SuperMarketers!
"Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once we grow up." – Pablo Picasso.
We all have some innate creativity within us.
But over the years, it may have been stamped out.
With AI though, we’re all back to having some design skills! (Again, AI is the great equalizer 😉)
Today, we're exploring how you can reignite your inner artist and designer, with just two tools:
👉️ ChatGPT
👉️ Canva
With just these two tools, you can transform your marketing visuals effortlessly.
Be more creative and efficient, with using just your imagination and text-based prompts.
Let’s get into it!
💡 Strategy: The Art and Science of Marketing Design
Visual design plays a pivotal role in capturing attention today. There’s just too much noise to compete with.
And humans are visually oriented creatures.
We process images faster than text – 60,000 times faster, according to some estimates.
A striking visual can grab attention almost instantly, a big advantage in the thumb-scrolling attention economy.
There are fundamental marketing reasons why you can’t afford to overlook visual design as a marketer today:
Brand Identity and Recall: Consistent and distinctive visual design helps in building a strong brand identity. It makes your content instantly recognizable in a sea of digital noise, aiding in brand recall and loyalty. When users see a particular color scheme, logo, or style, they immediately associate it with your brand.
Complex Information Simplification: Good visual design can simplify complex information. Infographics, charts, and other visual tools can make dense or complicated data more accessible and understandable for the audience.
Enhances User Experience: Visually appealing designs contribute to a better user experience. They can guide a user’s journey through a website or an app, highlighting key areas and simplifying navigation.
A great example of this is Apple: their approach to visual design is not just about aesthetics; it's a strategic tool for brand reinforcement.
Every element, from their logo to their product design, works in unison to create a cohesive, instantly recognizable brand identity that stands out in the digital space and fosters brand loyalty and recall.

🔍 Use Case: (Almost all of) Your Marketing Content Should Include Images
You’re going to be creating more visuals with each piece of content that you create.
Even if it’s just a Linked In post or tweet, adding an image can help communicate your message, claim more screen real estate, and grab attention.
So you’ll be creating images for:
Advertisements (print and digital)
YouTube Thumbnails
Blog Post images
Social Media posts
Email marketing templates
Infographics
Product packaging
🤖 Process: Create Images in ChatGPT, Edit In Canva
Creating images with ChatGPT, especially when integrated with DALL-E, and then editing them in Canva, is a streamlined and creative process.
And it’s dead simple.
First, you use ChatGPT to generate a descriptive text prompt.
Say I want to create an infographic, I can literally just type that into ChatGPT (requires paid plan $20/mo):
Once you have this AI-generated image, you can upload it to Canva.
Then you can enhance and customize this image further, adding text overlays, adjusting colors, or incorporating additional design elements to tailor it to your specific marketing needs.
🔬Explore: Canva’s Magic Studio
Canva’s built out a crazy powerful suite of AI tools, they call their Magic Studio.
In the Magic Studio, you can upload your image and fix it up to meet your exact needs.
Take the example of the infographic.
The text is not readable.
Here’s how we can change the text directly in the image:
Then you can use any of the Magic Studio features, like “Grab Text” to change the text:
Now suppose that we want to move around some things in the image.
Magic Studio has a suite of features for that: remove the background of images, add images (with text-based prompts), expand the image and more.
You can check out more of the Magic Studio features here:

I created a quick tutorial of how you can do the Canva & ChatGPT image editing, you can check it out here:
And if you’re curious about which tools are best to create AI images….
Javi Lopez is a great Twitter follow for all things GenAI images, and he has a great thread giving an overview of each of the tools:
The TL;DR: Midjourney the most versatile, DALL-E 3 best for understanding the prompts and including text, Stable Diffusion best for being able to control the images.
That’s it for this week, enjoy the weekend and stay super, Marketers.

Sometimes I don’t even know what the prompt is or what the training data is….this is from Javi Lopez. That moment when you realize you've taken the 'face mask Sunday' a bit too far.
